Your next customer will never see your website. Not first, anyway.
First they will open an app, type a question into a box that thinks, and read an answer written by a machine. Your name is in that answer, or it is not. The sale happens in that gap, in the split second between the question and the paragraph.
Contentstack looked at this reality and did what every sharp marketer is quietly doing right now: it built for the second audience.
That second audience is the agent. And today, on stage at ContentCon Europe in Amsterdam, Contentstack launched Canoe, the first tool from a major CMS company built around one brutal question: what does AI tell your buyers about you? (GlobeNewswire release, Oct 1, 2026)
What it is
Canoe is an AI visibility monitor, plain and simple. You hand it your URL. It scans your public site, drafts the questions your buyers actually ask, tags each one by buying stage (awareness, consideration, decision), and fires them at ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude with web search switched on.
About two minutes later you get the receipt: whether your brand appeared in the answers, how the engines described you, which competitors won instead, and which sources got cited. Every run ends with a ranked list of up to ten fixes, plus a site audit that scores whether AI crawlers can even read your pages. (Product page)
No Contentstack CMS required. It reads any public site, on any stack. That detail matters more than it looks.
What changed
Two numbers in the launch release tell the whole story. Bain found that 80% of consumers now rely on AI-written results for at least 40% of their searches. Gartner found that 45% of B2B buyers used generative AI during a recent purchase, mostly to research vendors.
Read that again. Nearly half of B2B buyers did vendor research inside a chatbot. The click funnel everyone spent a decade optimizing is now a trivia question. The new funnel is an answer.
And here is the part that should scare every marketing team with a rank tracker subscription: traditional SEO dashboards cannot see inside those answers. They track pages. The buyer reads paragraphs. Your position one result means nothing if the machine summarizes three competitors and skips you.
Neha Sampat, Contentstack’s founder and CEO, put it like this in Amsterdam: “Your next customer meets an agent before they meet you, and most brands have no idea what that agent is saying.” Her line for the last year has been that every brand must inspire humans and inform agents. Canoe is the instrument panel for the second half of that sentence.
What works
The cleverness here is not the monitoring. Everyone and their cousin is shipping a GEO dashboard this year, and most of them are screenshots with a logo.
The cleverness is the loop.
On paid plans, Canoe exposes a remote MCP server, so Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client can read the report, draft fixes for a human to review, and re-run the analysis to measure what moved. The report stops being a PDF of problems and starts being work an agent can pick up immediately. Conor Egan, Contentstack’s SVP of Product, framed it as the product’s whole reason to exist: “Seeing what AI says about your brand is only the first step. What matters is what your team does next.” Today the loop starts with individual tasks, he said. Next, it becomes how whole teams work.
Contentstack is eating its own cooking, too. The company is “customer zero,” running Canoe on contentstack.com every week, acting on the recommendations, measuring the movement. Vendors marking their own homework is always worth a raised eyebrow, but at least this one is doing it in public.
Then there is the pricing, which is a land grab wearing a product launch costume. Free is $0 forever, no credit card: one brand, ChatGPT and Gemini, a site audit, a fresh report every month. Growth is $279 a month ($2,790 annually, launch pricing) for all four engines, five brands, daily or weekly runs, the MCP server, and API access. Existing enterprise customers get Growth entitlements free through the end of 2026. Enterprise, with 200+ AI models, SSO, and data residency, lands early 2027.
And zoom out one more level: this is Contentstack’s first standalone product and its first self-serve motion, sign up and start building with no sales rep in the loop. The old enterprise CMS playbook just got a trapdoor installed under it.
What breaks
Honest accounting, because the Vault does not do press release cosplay.
The free plan runs two engines once a month. That is a taste, not a monitoring program. It will tell you that you have a problem; it will not watch the problem move.
AI answers vary run to run. Canoe handles this the right way, counting mentions in code and using only the citations each engine actually showed, but sentiment is still a model’s read. They label it as such, which is the honest call, and still worth remembering when a red number ruins your morning.
And the eternal vendor irony: a CMS company is now selling you the tool that grades how well your content feeds the machines, while its platform is one of the machines’ favorite food sources. Customer zero helps. It does not erase the conflict.
The biggest break, though, is conceptual. Knowing what the agent says is step one. Step two is changing what it says, and that still means real content, real sources, real authority, the unsexy stuff. No dashboard manufactures that. Canoe can hand you the map of the territory. You still have to walk it.
Who it is for
If your buyers ask AI for recommendations before they ever touch your site, congratulations, this is your category now whether you signed up or not. B2B teams with considered purchases. Consumer brands in categories where ChatGPT is the new front door. Any SEO team that has watched its dashboards go quiet while traffic mysteriously softens.
If your customers still find you through a Yellow Pages ad and a handshake, you can sit this one out. Everyone else, keep reading.
What to do this week
Run the free report on your own domain. It takes two minutes, costs nothing, and the ranked fix list will tell you more about your 2027 pipeline than your last quarter of rank tracking did.
Then run it on your biggest competitor and read the citations section like a detective. The sources the engines trust are your new media plan. Go get cited there.
The ranking was the map. The answer is the territory. Canoe just handed you a compass. Walk.
